Tyto věty vyjadřují uskutečnitelnou podmínku, za které může nastat děj hlavní věty. Podmínková věta je uváděna spojkami:

- IF (jestliže, kdyby, když)

- UNLESS (když ne, jestliže ne)

- PROVIDED THAT (za předpokladu, že)

- ON CONDITION THAT (pod podmínkou, že)

- IN CASE (v případě, že)

Ve vedlejší větě používáme přítomný čas (pro přítomnost a budoucnost) a minulý čas (pro minulost).

- If he is there, he helps them.

  He helps them if he is there.

- If he is there, he will help them.

  He will help them if he is there.

- If he was there, he helped them.

  He helped them if he was there.

V reálných (uskutečnitelných) podmínkových větách překládáme IF jako JESTLI, KDYŽ. Po této spojce angličtina místo budoucího času používá čas přítomný, ostatní časy se v těchto větách po IF nemění. V hlavní větě je přítomný, minulý, budoucí čas nebo rozkazovací způsob. Pořadí vět v souvětí může být libovolné, před spojkami nepíšeme čárku.

- If you get up at seven, you won’t be late for school.

  You won’t be late for school if you get up at seven.

- If he doesn’t learn it, he won’t know it.

  He won’t know it if he doesn’t learn it.

- If he learns it, give him this chocolate.

  Give him this chocolate if he learns it.

- If they aren’t at home, they can’t hear you.

  They can’t hear you if they aren’t at home.

- If she doesn’t get that hat, she will be unhappy.

  She will be unhappy if she doesn’t get that hat.

- If Peter knows it, he will tell it to you.

  Peter will tell it to you if he knows it.

- If you haven’t seen this film yet, you can go with us.

  You can go with us if you haven’t seen this film yet.

- If you left that book in the garden, you will find it there.

  You will find that book in the garden if you left it there.

- If you sent that telegram last night, Peter will receive it today.

  Peter will receive that telegram today if you sent it last night.

- If she finished her work yesterday, she can help us.

  She can help us if she finished her work yesterday.

- If they didn’t get any cinema tickets, they returned home.

  They returned home if they didn’t get any cinema tickets.

- If he was injured, they took him to hospital.

  They took him to hospital if he was injured.
