    There are about 130 daily and Sunday newspapers, 1,700 weekly papers and 7,500 periodical publications. The oldest newspapers is The Times founded in 1785. Other famous newspapers are Daily Mirror, Daily Express, Daily Mail, The Daily Telegraph, The Guardian, Financial Times, The Sunday Telegraph, The Observer etc.
   The British TV service was the world's first public TV service in 1936. The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) operates 2 national TV channels and 4 national and 32 local radio stations. Its overseas service - The BBC World Service transmits in English and other 36 languages.
    The Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) operates 2 TV channels and some local radio stations. Eight British-based satellite TV channels were set up to provide programmes in Britain and Europe.
