LONDON

London is the capital of both England and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It lies on the river Thames and covers an area of 1,580 square kilometres. Almost 7 million people live there and about 12 million in its conurbation. It includes the City of London and 32 boroughs. There are two cities in the centre of London: the City of London and the City of Westminster. The City of London, the oldest part of the town, is not far from the River Thames and it is the business and financial centre while the City of Westminster is known as the centre of political and administrative life of Great Britain.

London is the seat of the Monarch, the Parliament, the Government and the Supreme Court. It also contains many important museums, galleries, theatres and many historical buildings and parks. The Prime Meridian of the World runs across Greenwich in the east London.
